Thursday, March 16, 2006 ::: THE FUTURE OF AIR TRAVEL... GET BMW ON BOARD! Airbus will unveil a mock-up of the cabin for its new A350 twinjet at the Aircraft Interiors Expo 2006 exhibition in Hamburg next month. Airbus has linked with BMW to design a new interior on the A350 which will feature a number of new features, as it seeks to counter the new concepts introduced by Boeing in the cabin of the rival 787 twinjet. As expected, these artist renditions of the cabin mock up are pretty nice. But I say they're more like copying Boeing's instesad of countering any of B's design with new concepts. From what I see there are no new concepts. Highlights of this A350 cabin are as follows: 1. "New lighting features and shaping in the cabin to project whatever is appropriate for the mood required", which means 'sky' or 'clouds'. 2. "Bar area around door 2." Basically this is nothing new. Airlines can install as many bars as they want to any existing models - as long as they're willing to remove a few seats, and make less money. I know Virgin Atlantic does have bars on board their 747s and A340s though. 3. "In the entrance area there is a dome that that gives us the feeling of spaciousness or openness in the cabin and configured for whatever mood you want to generate." Once again, it's about the mood. What kind of mood do airlines want to generate? I'm curious about that. 4. Improved the overhead bin design to increase their volume. clouds! sky! Pretty nice, aren't they? Actually nothing impressive really. Mood lightings shouldn't be considered as revolutionary nowadays. source Now why don't we look at some pictures of the A350's 'rival' - the 787 from the B?
